![]() The serial numbers go in sequence, so the saw produced right after that one has a serial number one higher than the one in the picture.So, even if you cant make out the year marking, you can get somewhat close of an estimate of the saws age by comparing the serial number with a few other folks's saws to get a general idea.The year stamping is true with the Type1 saws for sure, I'm not 100% positive the overseas ones were marked the same, but think they are.If someone here has a T2 dewalt they may be able to check it out and let us know. That saw was manufactured in 1999, the other numbers cant be made out on that photo. The first two numbers indicate the year it was built, the second set of numbers indicate the month of production.The third pair of numbers represent the day.For instance, on this ebay auction, look closely at the photo of the motor. On the motor, directly to the right of the serial number, you will notice some stamped numbers. You will find the date of production on the motor as well. The Type 1 saws are more desireable then the latter, but both should give you many years of happy, troublefree scrolling. Yes, the saws motor will indicate wether its a type 1 or 2.
